About Me:

I am from Knoxville, TN and graduated from Carson-Newman College in 2008 with a degree in English (Literature Emphasis) and a minor in Applied Psychology.  My senior year at Carson-Newman, I decided to apply for the newly vacant Bonner Coordinator position at Carson-Newman and was told in late April that I had the job.  My wife, Ashley, and I live in Jefferson City and are trying to live more simply every day.  I love music.  I love reading & writing.  I have aspirations of some day teaching literature at the college level and doing some community organizing around issues of homelessness, diversity, and illiteracy.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary recruiting contact for the program
  • Attend National Bonner Gatherings
  • Facilitate student service work
  • Teach Bonner Freshman Liberal Arts 101 Class in the Fall
  • Advise students on Service work and general Program info
  • Oversee student leadership & planning including the BLT, Bonner Congress, Senior Intern, and Community Connections
  • Staff Sponsor for "Films for Change," "SEFE: Student Encouraging Further Education," and "CN Fine By Me" student Groups.
  • Oversee and facilitate "Middle and High School Youth Empowerment" Bonner Issue Team
  • Oversee Student training, i.e. New Bonner Orientation, conferences, Student Development Workshops.

Tasks I'm Working On:

  • Developing our Program Wiki
  • Planning meetings with Community Partners to strengthen ties.
  • Meeting Structure and curriculum for 09-10
  • New Student Orientation 09
  • Carson-Newman Serve 2.0 Initiative
  • New Director & Coordinator Training presentations
